Giving to God
Why give?
Giving feels good. It benefits those who receive as well as the giver.
Why give to God?
Give to God because all that you have is a gift from God. Cultivating what God gives you, sharing it lovingly with others, and returning a generous portion back to God teaches you how to be a disciple, to practice what you believe. It is spiritually good for believers to give since that is what God does. “God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9: 6-10) How you use your time and talent and spend your money really shows God and others what you believe is important.
Why give to God FIRST?
It puts first things first. It helps to keep God a part of your everyday life.
What to give?
Give your time. There never seems to be enough time and no way to get any more time in a day or week. The challenge is to use the time we have wisely and deliberately.
Give your prayer. Prayer can be between you and God, with others in your house, or with the community of St. Anne. Being involved in a parish ministry will provide another opportunity for prayer.
Give your time and talents – what you’re the best at – or what you feel called to even if you have never done it before. Become involved in one or more of our parish ministries or some other community agency or group.
Give your your money. Be intentional! Look at what you do with your money every day, week, or month. Is it used for those things that are really important to you? Make a choice to give to God first– at the beginning of the month if possible. You probably don’t have lots of money sitting around that you are just looking to give away. If you are going to give to God, you may need to spend money differently or give up some things that are not as important. If adults don’t teach children and youth to give to God, who will?
